The full-time Junior Kindergarten teacher partners alongside a co-lead teacher and an assistant teacher to lead a group of 4- and 5-year-old children in developmentally appropriate and highly engaging instruction. This position will start in July 2026.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Hold deep knowledge of early childhood development and an embrace of best practices in early childhood teaching and learning. • Create and design, review and revise curriculum/program as needed to provide appropriate, meaningful, and engaging activities which stimulate children’s learning in alignment with the school’s philosophy. • Facilitate children’s learning and play in a non-directive, positive, and flexible manner, knowing when and how to step in, shift gears, and adapt activities to promote all areas of development. • Share in the responsibility for the ordered arrangement of the learning environment and daily preparation of inviting classroom space. • Collaborate with fellow classroom teachers and specialists in the planning and implementation of inter-disciplinary, place-based, outdoor, and experiential learning. • Collaborate with museum educators at Cranbrook Institute of Science, Cranbrook Art Museum, and other community members. • Write progress reports for students. • Confer with parents during scheduled conferences and as needed. • Build positive relationships with children and their families, treating all with dignity and respect, maintaining positive classroom culture using nonjudgmental language and tone of voice. • Document and communicate student learning through meaningful photos and writing for colleagues and families. • Attend after-school faculty meetings and other scheduled events such as Open House, etc. • Serve as a member of school committees as needed.
