The Language Department seeks a leave replacement instructor to join our department starting August 17, 2026 through December 18, 2026 school year for four sections of French I, II, and III. This position could extend through the 2026-2027 school year. 

The instructor will work with the department chair to ensure an integrated and cohesive curriculum. Additionally, the instructor will be encouraged to use creative and innovative teaching techniques, including but not limited to experiential learning and reflection practices. The instructor will embrace Emma Willard School’s academic program pillars of intellectual flexibility, purpose and community, and equity and justice as a guide.

Classes and Dates for employment:

Dates: August 17 - December 18, 2026 (with possible extension into spring semester)

• 1 section of French I
• 2 sections of French II
• 1 section of French III

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Create daily lesson plans
• Tailor and administer appropriate assessments as consistent with departmental philosophy and practice
• Grade assessments and offer substantive feedback within a timely manner
• Keep accurate records of assignments, attendance, and grades on a learning management system online
• Prepare information on students for transition between teachers  
• Provide individual support to students as needed
• Communicate with students’ advisors, parents, and/or house parents as appropriate
• Be a positive force in the lives of students

• Bachelor’s degree in French or related field 
• Be a strong advocate for the Emma Willard School mission
• Demonstrate excellence in course design, planning, and implementation
• Have a good working knowledge of Google, Microsoft Word, comfort with online learning-management systems, and enthusiasm for experimenting with learning technologies
• Be skilled at fostering students’ independent French reading and writing skills through an engaging and active class environment
• Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development
• Demonstrate superior judgment

Preferred Qualifications / Competencies:

• Advanced degree in French or in education preferred
• 3 years of French-teaching experience

Salary

$4,700/class per semester (and up to $10,000 per class, per year), prorated based on start and end date.
